Good morning Alaska! Today, an
earthquake woke a couple people, shaking the couches and beds we were sleeping
on. However, since it was Saturday, we
were able to sleep in and have a late breakfast.
With everyone up and full of food, we went on a little road trip for the day. On our way to Girdwood, we stopped at a
lookout called Beluga Point, where beluga whale sightings are common. While we
didn’t see any whales, we did climb some of the rock structures and hung out on
the lookout. We stopped in Girdwood for
lunch at the Chair 5 restaurant. Lots of
people had burgers made of elk, bison, and caribou as well as pizza. We also
celebrated Taylor’s birthday and she got a free slice of super-rich chocolate
cheesecake. The portions were huge and
the food was excellent! With our bellies full, we headed down the road to Byron
Glacier. We followed a walked path along
a stream until we reached the glacier. A
significant amount of the glacier was melted, but there was still snow left for
us hike in. A few people were daring
enough to start a snowball fight. We got
back to the house around 7 PM to have dinner.
Taylor had fallen asleep on the couch, so we all prepared her birthday
cake while she slept. She woke up to a small surprise party and another
rendition of happy birthday. To
celebrate her 21st birthday, we all went to the local bowling alley
to play cosmic bowling. While the
majority of us couldn’t bowl over 100 points, everyone had a really great time! Taylor
said it was a best 21st birthday she could ever have!
