Day 0.5: April 29th

Our first night in Alaska!

Time flew by while we waited for our Delta flight to board.  Leaving around 5:40pm CST, the plane ride was a little less than six hours.  While the seating was slightly cramped, everyone enjoyed the complementary entertainment including free movies, television shows, music, and games which made the plane ride seem a lot shorter than six hours.  Some popular films students watched include Frozen, American Hustle, Anchorman 2, and Saving Mr. Banks

We arrived to the quaint Anchorage airport to purple, snow topped mountains and the smell of fresh air with a hint of Cinnabon. Also, we were welcomed by the sun, sitting bright and low on the horizon.  I type this post in the evening of our first day. My computer, still on Central Standard Time, states that it is 1:30 AM.  However, the sun is out, and since there is a time difference of three hours, our internal clocks with need some adjusting.  The sun finally “set” at 2 AM.

Upon reaching the baggage claim in the airport, we were greeted by two Irish gentlemen, Jerry and Noel, who are recent college graduates and also volunteers at Hope.  They drove us to the Hope housing where we will be staying for two weeks.  We are residing in one of two, single story, townhome style houses with numerous dorm style rooms in the house.  Numerous Irish students are living in the other house across the driveway.  So far, they have been incredibly friendly and I believe we will all get along well!

Tomorrow we have a meet and greet planned with the Hope staff, and we will also be visiting two museums.
